Dr. Robert E. Buxbaum was a professor of chemical engineering at Michigan State University, and at Wayne State. He is president of REB Research & Consulting, an engineering manufacturing and consulting company, lives in Oak Park, MI, with his wife (a first grade teacher) and youngest daughter. His mother and sisters were teachers, as is his older daughter. Statement: I got an excellent education in a school system with excellent teachers, but few facilities. Berkley does the opposit, borrowing $88 million last year alone for buildings and equipment (by a raise of taxes), but pays teachers poorly. The result is high school math proficiency is only 44%. I think academics are a better investment, and don't favor AI: it's a crutch, in my opinion. In terms of curriculum, I'd work with the superintendent, favoring old-school excellence in writing, math, heroic poetry, and patriotic history, shop class, drawing, music, dance, social studies, chemistry, physics, school trips, and science fairs. I think advanced students should be rewarded by being given advanced (harder) work. Why should all the attention go to sports and slower students? I also think the drivers-ed courses should be made available to all students on the district including parochial school students; we pay taxes, and get no services. Elect an engineer. Elect Dr. Buxbaum. |

Flint poisoned its people by bad water, contaminaterd with lead and disease. Schools in particular have this problem because the fountains remain dormant for weeks over the summer and sometimes for weeks during the school year. We can avoid a lot of problems by flushing the fountains, or adding filters. It's an important health issue. |
We just passed $88 million dollar bond issue. That's, $22,000 per student, debt we will have to pay back on top of our previous borrowing of $45M. Let's try to spend it wisely; I'm not keen on more borrowing and more taxes for fancy facilities, as the current board seems to favor. |
LGBQT+ pride month is a given in our system. It seems inappropriate for K-6; I will follow the community, but would like to add reading pride and math pride month, and veterans pride too. If you feel otherwise, I'm willing to listen. Along with this, I'd like to see more broad community education benefits.
Currently, parochial school students are effectively excluded. |
